My awesome SIL got me this beautiful fabric for my birthday and it’s sat around for months waiting for inspiration to strike. It finally did when I saw lakesidemakes awesome Peppermint Pocket Skirt at Craft Camp. This was such a satisfying sew to make and I love the finished product. I think next time (cause there will definitely be a next time) I’ll make a size up for a fuller skirt but other than there’s nothing I’d change 😊

Stickad nerifrån och upp, med det roliga och fina spetsmönstret först. Stickade några cm extra, för att slippa croppat linne.

Stickad på stickor nr 3,5. Gick ändå snabbt att bli klar, hamnade oftast i "bara ett varv till" ... Och endast två nystan gick åt till storlek 3.

Before the Easter holidays I made the Peppermint Pocket Skirt in a navy double gauze. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out (messy cutting and first time sewing with double gauze) but it’s actually become a favourite for sunny days! It’s really flowy and comfy, and the pockets are massive, a bit too big maybe, but very handy when I was decluttering yesterday.
This was the last thing I sewed before my sewjo went on holiday too, but I’m feeling it starting to come back, I can’t wait to make more outfits for spring and summer!

For a project at work we have been doing some up-cycling of clothes for a fashion show. One of the women donated a dress, I loved the fabric but didn't love the shape of the dress. So I changed it into this skirt.

The pattern for a skirt is from peppermintmagazine and is sold as pay what you want. They work with different pattern designers from across the world to create accessible sewing patterns. This is the Pocket Skirt that was designed by paper_theory

🧶 LIMINAL SHAWL 🧶

I enjoyed every minute of knitting this shawl - like a good book I almost didn't want it to end. For my first shawl I wanted something fairly repetitive but with some interest.

This pattern was a joy to knit because it includes beautiful texture with the bobbles and brioche but breaks it up with garter - just enough to give you a rest but not enough to get bored.

It was my first foray into brioche and I love it. It's difficult to fix mistakes so I added a lifeline before starting a brioche section. I also used stitch markers to help me remember when to increase so I didn't go into autopilot. It's finished with a picot cast off that was surprisingly easy to do. I haven't blocked it as I've heard both alpaca and brioche grow so it's not worth the risk.

The yarn too is so soft and drapey, I love love love it. So far I've found two ways to style a triangle shawl - I wore it with the V at the front this morning when I went to the market as it was still chilly, and I am wearing it over my shoulders with the V at the back as I work at my desk.

Today's look of linen skirt, handknit sweater and shawl is my happy place.

I love this so much and can see many more paper_theory #peppermintpocketskirt in my wardrobe. This is a free download from peppermintmagazine and I had an it printed in an A0 format by thefoldline .
I made a size smaller than my measurements after looking at the finished garment measurements. I didn’t want too much excess fabric because at 5ft 3, I didn’t want it to swamp me. It’s so perfect, I lost a tiny bit of length because I used the raystitch herringbone linen left over from my Emerson Pants. I love this fabric so much and would really like to buy more to make a jacket🤎 .

Spent today showing my in-laws from Australia around Cardiff! We spent a lot of time in Bute Park and the weather was gorgeous! I wore my stylearc Ariana top and my peppermintmagazine pocket skirt. We walked a loooong way (26,000 steps roughly) but everyone enjoyed exploring the arcades and seeing the landmarks around town. #memademay2023, day 29. Wearing a #peppermintpocketskirt made of a jumble of various wax prints collected over the years, patch in a haphazardly way over the years (looong before I understood grainline), and finally assembled a couple of days ago as a skirt.

Always tricky skirts for me. They ride up (thanks belly!), I need to wear anti-shaffing shorts (thanks thighs!), I never quite know what to wear on top... but all the skirts you guys are showing on the Me Made May tag made me want to give it another try. In terms of this particular pattern I made a fold on each pockets otherwise my hips looked comically out of proportions (thanks hips!) and I shortened it as otherwise I felt swallowed (thanks loud prints!).

When I check myself in the mirror I always feel like there should be more visual space between my chest and my waist and that it looks ridiculous how high my skirt’s waistband hits. But then all of you with similar body shape all look great with your skirts. And when I look at this pic I like the proportions I am seeing. So, need to ease myself into it! The open light cardi helps ;)

#MeMadeMay updates!

Day 5: #StephanieRectangleTop and #EthelPants. Somehow messed up the sleeves and made them comically too long, even after giving them statement cuffs!

Day 6: #bobpants and The Best Jumper Ever, knitted by my mum many moons ago. Photo is an old one, but the effect is the same!

Day 8: my second and favourite #ZadieJumpsuit. Not complaining about the accidental Star Wars vibes!

Day 10: me-crocheted jumper (details elsewhere on the grid) and #PeppermintPocketSkirt. Remembered why I never wear the skirt...the hem is an uneven mess, and I shortened it more than intended. Will try to straighten it and add a band around the bottom at some stage, because the pockets are amazing!

Have also been tackling the biggest thing in the mending pile...which has turned into more of a refashion, really, but still, progress!

Not sure about this. It needs a heavier fabric and the colour is too pale for me. God my legs are pasty. And bruised 😂. I took 20cm off the bottom and learnt that if a pattern is made for someone who is 5ft 7 it will not work on 5ft 3. I still love the pockets so just need to find more suitable fabric and I’ll probably make another. Super quick and easy pattern #peppermintpocketskirt

I'm going to call this my strawberry outfit. Just finished this peppermintmagazine #pocketskirt by paper_theory. Fabric is a rosewood linen from blackbirdfabrics. I love the linen and the length of this skirt because I can see it working in a summer outfit (even if the day is blustery like today), and layered up for cooler days. I tend to rush through many things in my life, unless it's writing or embroidery. But I'm trying to slow down a bit when it will be worth it in the long run so I took the time to topstitch the vertical hems in the skirt because I like the look. This skirt would also make a great gardening skirt. Think of all the cucumbers and tomatoes I could fit in those pockets 🥒🥒🥒🍅🍅 (I recently found a bean fron the garden in a shorts pocket).

I made the top a year ago: Lyra by Afternoon Patterns (now closed) in a rifle paper strawberry cotton.

First clothing in a long while, and certainly of 2023: the free #peppermintpocketskirt with sand washed cotton crepe from firecrackerfabrics. I love this fabric, it's so easy to work with and has a fun texture that looks like parquet floors. I'm not usually a big-skirt person, but I needed something that would accommodate whatever size and shape changes my body makes over the next few months. It's unusually easy to move in, even for my long stride. And I can hold so much string cheese in these pockets

Pattern: Peppermint Pocket Skirt, a free pattern from peppermintmagazine, by paper_theory, size 10

Fabric: a
lovely static stripe yarn-dyed cotton from blackbirdfabrics

If you are wanting to dive into learning to sew, this is a straightforward beginner pattern. (Ahem, heatherindallastx.) The clever pockets elevate it from your basic rectangle skirt with an elasticated waist. I sewed this in two hours, and that’s only because I made French seams. Only mod was to shorten the pocket placement by .5 inch and made a smaller hem.
The instructions say it’s drafted for a person who is 5’7”, and I actually think a person taller than me (5’4”) might want to add some centimeters to the length.

Looking forward to wearing this in the fall with leggings and boots and a cute crop sweater or denim jacket. Here, first styled with #antheablouse, a previous make from thrifted fabric. So fun to be able to wear me-mades together! Second, with a replica 1975 concert T-shirt unashamedly purchased at Target several years ago for my then-tween who never wore it. I’m not gonna tell you what someone in my house had to say about the first styling, but I will tell you it had the phrase “Little House on the Prairie” somewhere in it. 😂 Good thing I adore LHP.

I've fallen back in love with this hot pink colour 💗

Skirt is a #peppermintpocketskirt in a fuchsia cotton & linen blend from #sewmesunshine.

The top was my second attempt at making a matching top for the full co-ord look. There wasn't a lot of fabric left, so I had to piece it together more than I would have liked. That went ok but I either stretched out the neck slightly (I did staystitch), or more likely, I need to adjust my pattern a little.

The top started as a long button front Burda tank pattern (125 5/2020>, which I shortened, graded the shoulders smaller and neck smaller, and then turned the bust dart into a style line. The hem curves came from a completely different Burda pattern (133 6/2023). The 5th image perhaps explains better.

The 4th photo is how I'm attempting to carry on wearing this summery colour into the autumn.

I love the pattern so much I made two skirts. It was a very fast and simple sew for me. (Each skirt was finished in under two hours) This skirt is made from a thrifted table linen that I hand dyed over the summer. I also took time to document the process of getting a just right fit! Here’s at least one reason to look forward to autumn – my new #PeppermintPocketSkirt in this sublime cobalt blue colour.⁣⁣ The skirt is easy and cool, like pretty much everything else designed by Tara Viggo of @Paper_Theory. It’s a super quick make – it took me just a couple of hours, including the pattern assembling. This is the size 14, with 5cm added to the length for my 1.74m frame.⁣⁣ The skirt is designed with linen in mind, but I think it can work well with many other fabrics.⁣⁣ I used this beautifully soft corduroy from @stoffstil ⁣It’s a medium-weight fabric, but still soft enough to drape well.
